Café Kili is accepting nominations for the Fan of the Fall award. The first ten fans to click on the “Jambo!” tab on our Facebook page and fill out the nomination form will be selected for an opportunity to win a free soft drink and food item from Café Kili! Friends, fans, and family can begin voting for a winner as soon as we have our ten contestants!

Rules:

Recipe: Vietnamese Coffee Sundaes with Crushed Peanut Brittle

In the Vietnamese culture, strong iced coffee combined with sweet condensed milk is very popular. This ice cream sundae was inspired by these two flavors. The bold flavors mixed with peanut brittle and a pinch of cinnamon adds a great flavor. This recipe can be found at delish.com

  • 1 cup(s) sugar
  • 1 tablespoon(s) sugar
  • 1/2 cup(s) water
  • 1 cup(s) unsalted roasted peanuts
  • 1/2 teaspoon(s) cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon(s) kosher salt
  • 3/4 cup(s) sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tablespoon(s) instant coffee mixed with 1 1/2 teaspoons of hot water
  • 1/2 cup(s) heavy cream
  • 2 pint(s) vanilla ice cream

Directions

  1. Lightly grease a baking sheet. In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of the sugar with the water and bring to a boil. Cook over moderately high heat, undisturbed, until an amber caramel forms, about 12 minutes. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the roasted peanuts, cinnamon, and salt until the peanuts are evenly coated. Scrape the caramel mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and spread in an even layer. Let stand until the brittle is hardened, about 20 minutes.
  2. Break off 4 medium-size pieces of peanut brittle. Place the remaining brittle in a resealable plastic bag and roll with a rolling pin to crush the brittle into small pieces.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk the sweetened condensed milk with the dissolved instant coffee. In another medium bowl, using an electric mixer, beat the heavy cream with the remaining 1 tablespoon of sugar at high speed until softly whipped.
  4. Scoop the ice cream into 4 bowls and drizzle with the milky coffee. Sprinkle with the crushed peanut brittle and top with a generous dollop of whipped cream. Garnish with the reserved pieces of peanut brittle and serve at once.

Coffee Barbecue Sauce Recipe

Jambo, friends!  As promised, we are posting a recipe for Coffee Barbecue Sauce. We are sure that these warmer temperatures have you all ready to light the grill! This recipe is great for those who love their sauce strong and with a tang. The sauce is a great marinate for your favorite meat including pork, chicken and beef. Do you have any spring recipes that include coffee? Share them with us.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 20 minutes

Total Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup brewed espresso or strong, dark Cafe Kili coffee
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1 onion, peeled and finely chopped, about 1 cup
  • 2 cloves garlic, peeled and crushed
  • 3 fresh hot chili peppers, such as jalapeno, or hotter if desired, seeded
  • 2 Tablespoons hot dry mustard mixed with 1 tablespoon warm water
  • 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons ground cumin
  • 2 Tablespoons chili powder

You might know that the Joy FM has been providing listeners with joy and inspiration for more than 25 years. However, you might not know about the monthly opportunities you have to interact with their morning show hosts. On Tuesday, Jan.24, Dan and Mary will host a Sticker Stop at Café Kili. Jambo friends! We know that you love our coffee but have you ever tasted one of our teas? Some of our flavors include Tanzania Green Tea, Earl Grey Tea and Organic Green Passion. At Café Kili, we want to keep you up-to-date with some of the many benefits of coffee and tea.

Over the past decade, there has been an increase in the amount of research done on the benefits of green tea. Green tea was originated in China and is brewed from the dried leaves of the Chinese Camellia sinensis plant. After the leaves a picked, they are then heated which oxidation. These methods are believed to give green tea its many benefits.
